Specialized Boarding Schools

Specialized boarding schools can help students with language-based learning differences who;

  • Are having trouble keeping up with homework and reading assignments
  • Whose reading skills are not progressing even with help from tutors
  • Whose learning differences are starting to affect their social-emotional health

Deciding to send your child to a specialized boarding school is a big step. For some students its the first time they will be away from home. There are different types of specialized boarding schools that meet different needs. A specialized boarding school is also called a supportive boarding school.

This type of boarding school offers a close knit community that provides a learning and living environment that specializes in teaching students with language-based learning differences, executive functioning issues, and/or ADHD.

Once your child arrives at their specialized boarding school and settles in they will soon realize what a positive environment they have found. For the first time they stop and take a breath and feel like “finally there is a place for me and everybody here gets me.”

They will begin to experience the incredible feeling of success.

A specialized boarding school can be a game changer

specialized boarding schools

For many students with learning differences, a specialized boarding school is the first school at which they are on a level playing field with their peers. They live and learn with other students that learn like they do. This, along with the supportive teachers and staff instructing them in ways that fit their learning style is a game changer.

As a former boarding school teacher at a specialized boarding school for students with language-based learning differences, I have witnessed first hand how a child’s life can change 360 degrees from the moment they first arrive. They feel frustrated, misunderstood and have no hope of becoming a thriving, happy, successful student. After a short while they become successful learners.

The change happens because the specialized boarding school provides each student with a smaller class size and a nurturing and structured environment. They start to see themselves as a learner, their self esteem and sense of empowerment increase, and the deep friendships they form will affect the rest of their lives. Only a specialized boarding school can provide all of this.
