Work with Shofer Educational Consulting

We begin with an initial phone consultation to better understand your situation, to make sure that your needs are within my area of expertise, and to understand the timing appropriate to your situation. If there is an immediate need for placement, we will move as rapidly as possible to place your child in a program that best matches their needs.

Families may be in crisis and need to find a program for their adolescent, or young adult quickly, or they may have a longer timeline. Whatever situation you are in when you work with Shofer Educational Consulting you can feel confident you are getting the right advice.

Here is a summary of how we can work together to help your child;

  • Review of Records

    I start by reviewing your child’s records including testing reports, treatment summaries and school records

  • Meeting with Parents

    to gather information and put together an academic, social/emotional, behavioral history about the student, learning about their family’s goals for the student, as well as resources that have been tried to date- what has worked, as well as what hasn’t worked.

  • Meeting with Student

    to learn about student preferences- likes/dislikes, interests, perceptions, hobbies, accomplishments, and struggles.

  • Phone Collaboration with Involved Professionals

    I speak to teachers, academic advisors, tutors, therapists and psychologists to gain insight into your child’s needs

  • Compile a Composite of the Situation and Possible Paths Forward

My years of experience in education, special education, and psychology, and my first hand knowledge of schools and programs help me determine the best school or program for your childs strengths and struggles.

  • Meeting to Discuss Types of Services and Placement Options

    and which may be the best match for your child.

  • Communication with Parents Before, During and After Initial Placement

    • Provide support,
    • Answer questions and concerns
    • Discuss next steps.
  • Monitor Your Child’s Progress

    Communication with academic and/or therapeutic staff through weekly phone calls throughout the term of your child’s placement is essential for me to be able to;

    • monitor your child’s progress
    • understand what your child’s strengths and challenges are in the program
    • learn what is working and what isn’t working
    • ensure that the students’ needs are being fully met while your child is enrolled in a school or therapeutic program.
  • Longer Term Therapeutic Placement

    the information that I gather from the weekly calls during your child’s initial placement will be used to guide the process of choosing the second longer term placement
