What is an educational consultant?

An educational consultant, is a professional and an expert in finding the appropriate fit between a student and a school or program. While many educational consultants often specialize in more than one area, they usually have a primary area of focus, for example: colleges, or day schools, boarding schools, or therapeutic, or learning differences. My focus is students with learning differences or those in need of therapeutic placements.

Why work with an educational consultant?

A therapeutic/educational consultant is the professional used by families with a struggling child to help them explore residential options. The expertise and advice of a trained educational consultant is the most valuable resource a family can have as they navigate finding help for their child.

Educational consultants are the link between families and boarding schools for students with learning differences, wilderness programs, residential treatment centers, therapeutic boarding schools and stabilization and assessment centers. A consultant should have the professional background to fully assess a child’s academic, social, and emotional needs and match them with the appropriate staff and setting.

An educational consultant needs to be experienced and knowledgeable in order to determine what level of treatment is needed for the student.  Which facilities – academic boarding schools or therapeutic programs, are going to be best suited for your child’s needs. They need to be skilled at managing the relationships with therapists, field guides, admissions directors, and educators.

The best educational consultants have visited the vast majority of boarding schools for students with learning differences as well as therapeutic programs, acute care hospital settings, intervention programs and young adult support settings. They know the individual therapists and can often be instrumental in matching the child with the most appropriate therapist in a particular program. An educational consultant is a family’s advocate before, during and after placement.

Can you guarantee that a child will be admitted to a particular school or program?

I never solicit or accept any form of compensation from schools, programs, agencies, or companies in exchange for placements or referrals.

  • When you are worried about their safety
